The Tax Collector's Office assists taxpayers, other departments and members of the public with current and past information regarding County real estate and personal property taxation. In addition, this office works closely with the Assessor and Auditor's offices in educating the public regarding the various aspects of assessment, collection, and distribution of taxes.

The Treasurer's Office is responsible for investment of available pooled funds according to guidelines in the Government Code and County Investment Policy.

Calaveras County Tax Collector Adding New Service

Barbara Sullivan, Calaveras County Tax Collector, recently announced that her department has added ACH/eCheck payment to its online, phone and mobile device credit and debit card payment options. Heartland Payment Systems will now process those payments along with Credit and Debit card payments for the department.   Heartland will charge $1.50 per transaction for ACH/eCheck payments.   Payments made with a VISA and MasterCard branded debit card will be charged a $3.95 service fee.  VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express branded credit cards will be charged a 2.38% service fee.   Service fees are collected by Heartland and not retained by the Tax Collector.

Ms. Sullivan further stated that she and her staff are dedicated to improving the online experience to better help you find the information you’re looking for, such as paying your property taxes online, important dates, upcoming tax sales, news or office locations.  On behalf of Calaveras County, thank you for your timely payment of property taxes which go to support your public safety, local schools and community colleges, and, the communities and cities in which we live, work and play.  It truly is an honor to serve you in this important fiduciary role.

In September 2014, Assembly Bill AB 2231 Chapter 703, Statutes of 2014, reinstated a modified Property Tax Postponement program (PTP).  The State Controller's Office (SCO) will begin accepting new PTP applications Beginning October 1, 2016.  You can visit their website for more information.
